They seek sporting and social activities to keep their minds and bodies lean and sharp. To fulfill their needs the non-profit Bali Sports & Country Club (B.S.C.C.) was inaugurated this past Thursday. Founding club members include Janet and Roger Brumby, who teach and also coach tennis at the Jakarta international school. They head up the tennis coaching committee. Mr. Ida Bagus Mega Antara will serve as the Indonesian liaison committee head. Local property consultant Lawrence has accepted the position of the President for the first year. Mrs. Elsie Millington who a very experienced Canadian bridge player will head up the bridge committee. Ms. Jeannie McBride and Timothy McBride of America will run the Travel Committee. Australians, Nigel Doubles and his lovely wife Janine will head the social committee. Desiree Bellefontaine will head up the charity committee and kitten foundation.
The club as yet does not have its own sporting facilities
such as golf course or tennis courts. There is no need for such expense with ample tennis courts available at locations such as Sanur Beach hotel, Bali Hyatt Hotel and dozens of other Hotels courts throughout Bali. For golf they have a choice of Nusa Dua golf course, Le Meridian, or the newly renovated Bali Country Club located on the border of the grand Bali Beach hotel.

which is one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world. Social activities will include cooking classes, charity events, and poker, bridge, backgammon and crib tournaments in the club’s air-conditioned club rooms. Other activities, such as lawn bowling and outer island excursions including discount travel, will be available to club members. The club facilities are located in a brand new two-story 1,000-square meter modern complex which includes broadband internet connections which are available for a small fee to the members. The club also includes a five-star restaurant run by Chef Clive Pelser, formerly the head Chef at a Four Star Bali Hotel. Member will be able to utilize the first class private function rooms for private parties or charitable events. Unlike most country clubs throughout the world membership fees are not thousands of dollars but a mere RP 1,000,000 for the first year ($9.00 per month). Substantial discounts will be offered to club members for travel and sporting activities. The B.S.C.C. goal is to supply the missing link that Westerners’ desire to retire or semi-retire on our beautiful island. B.S.C.C. also plans on running sports training programs for underprivileged Indonesian children so that they may be able to enjoy sports that are normally not available to them. B.S.C.C. Will also be running in conjunction with the club the Bali kitten foundation whose purpose is to rescue unwanted kittens, improve their health and then find them loving homes. All in all it appears that finally Bali will have a club that is interesting and fulfilling for the mind and the body.
